Church End Lower School is a modern and well resourced school located at the heart of the village close to the historic church of St Mary’s. The school’s underpinning aim is that Every Child to Matters regardless of ability, gender, social group or ethnicity.
The school offers your child the opportunity to strive to reach their potential through excellent teaching and a caring ethos. Our school site provides children with the experience of exploring our woodland and natural play areas as well as the high sea challenges presented by our very own pirate ship! During the summer months all children enjoy cooling down in our open air swimming pool.
Our children enjoy a range of out of school hour’s activities that are available as five week courses during the course of the academic year. These ‘clubs’ have included Art, Cricket, Street Dancing and Lego!
For working parents we are able to provide before and after school child care. Our breakfast club is available from eight o’ clock and after school care is available until five thirty.
We hope that you find us friendly, approachable and welcoming.
Shelton Lower School
Lower Shelton Road
Marston Moreteyne
Bedford
MK43 0LS
Tel: 01234 768269
Email: sheltonlower@schools.bedfordshire.gov.uk
Head-teacher: Mr. James Smart
This is a small village school, situated on the outskirts of Marston Moreteyne. Children are normally admitted to school at the start of the term following their fourth birthday. Currently there are three classes, covering about 70 children through our age range.
Normally these are smaller groups than often found in larger schools, so teachers have a greater opportunity to know children individually, and can plan work to suit all abilities. Children are valued and nurtured as individuals in the family atmosphere pervading the school.
The aims of the school are:-
- to develop independence, self-confidence and self discipline in order that each child may achieve its full potential.
- to develop fully all aspects of a child's growth: intellectual, moral, social, physical and emotional.
- to provide an environment which is organised, industrious and stimulating.
There are extensive and attractive grounds which include an environmental area and a football pitch, a trim trail and a covered play space for the younger children.
Our motto is 'The Small School with the Big Heart' and we work hard to live up to it!

Marston Footpath and Conservation Group
The Marston Footpath and Conservation Group is part of an organisation called the Parish Paths Partnership (P3). It is a partnership between a group of local people from the parish and the County Council working together to keep the public rights of way (footpaths and bridleways) around Marston Moreteyne accessible. There are over 60 parishes involved in the scheme in Bedfordshire. Help, training and encouragement are provided by the county council along with equipment and a full diary of social events.
Our local group was formed in 1998 and since then we have installed bridges, kissing gates, stiles, many way marker posts, cleared many kilometres of paths and produced a local walk leaflet, The Jubilee Walk. There are more than 28kms. of public rights of way in our parish so as many people as possible are needed to keep things moving. It is sociable, fun and very worthwhile.
If you would like to know more you can contact the P3 Officer at County Hall on 01234 228426 or look in the Marston Village Diary for the current local contact.
