About Us

Marston Moreteyne is a large village between Bedford and Milton Keynes. It has a population of about 4,000 and is situated on the A421 lying within the Marston Vale.

The Parish of Marston Moreteyne covers Upper & Lower Shelton, Wootton Green and Wood End. Historically, the Marston Vale was an area of brick-making activity. Once excavated, some of the clay pits were used for landfill whilst others have been restored as lakes. One landfill site is due to close in 2008, leaving the other with a limited life span before closure. The resultant landscape combines the Vale’s post-industrial heritage with the more traditional rural landscape of agriculture, as well as emerging as a centre for water based recreation.

The Marston Vale Community Forest project was set up to promote rural regeneration throughout the Marston Vale. The Forest Centre and Millennium County Park has since become a successful area within the boundaries of the parish, and residents and visitors benefit from the Centre’s promotion of bird and wildlife conservation. Regular walks and activities are organised by the Centre to promote knowledge in these areas. The village is served by Millbrook Railway Station which is about a mile away on the Marston Vale Line. A regular bus service is also available which accesses the nearby town of Bedford.

Rapidly expanding, the village is served by several shops, two public houses, two Lower Schools (Church End and Shelton Lower) and a doctor’s surgery. It also benefits from a mobile library service which visits many locations around the village. There is a vibrant Village Hall which offers residents the chance to take part in numerous clubs and activities. The Sports Pavilion is the home of both of Marston Moreteyne’s football clubs and cricket club.
